Domains vs WordPress Dashboard
When working on your Trinity WordPress site, you may use two different dashboards: Trinity Domains/cPanel and the WordPress Dashboard.
They are connected, but they are not the same thing.
What Is Trinity Domains/cPanel?
Trinity Domains is where you manage your web space. After logging in, you are taken to cPanel, which is the control panel for your domain.
Use Trinity Domains/cPanel for tasks such as:
- Installing WordPress
- Opening My Apps
- Managing installed applications
- Setting up HTTPS/security settings
- Managing domain or subdomain settings
- Accessing site files or backups, if needed
In most cases, you will only need cPanel when you are setting up your site or managing technical settings.
What Is the WordPress Dashboard?
The WordPress Dashboard is where you edit the actual content of your WordPress site.
Use the WordPress Dashboard for tasks such as:
- Creating or editing pages
- Writing blog posts
- Uploading images or PDFs
- Managing menus
- Changing themes or appearance settings
- Updating basic site settings
This is where you will spend most of your time once WordPress has been installed.
How Do I Get from Domains to WordPress?
- Go to domains.trincoll.edu.
- Log in with your Trinity username and password.
- In cPanel, click My Apps.
- Find your WordPress site.
- Click the link ending in wp-admin.
This will take you to the WordPress Dashboard.
Common Point of Confusion
In cPanel, clicking the WordPress icon under Applications usually starts the process of installing a new WordPress site.
If you already installed WordPress and want to edit your site, click My Apps instead.
