About The Watkinson

The Watkinson Library serves as a public research library, the rare book and special collections of the Trinity College Library, and the repository of the Trinity College archives. It is located on the main floor of the Raether Library and Information Technology Center.

The Watkinson contains over 175,000 printed volumes ranging in date from the fifteenth century to the present; 4,000 linear feet of manuscript and archival material; 25,000 pieces of sheet music (1720-1950); over 5,000 sound recordings; and thousands of pieces of ephemera (postcards, greeting cards, trade cards, ballad sheets, prints, maps, playbills, posters, and broadsides).

Watkinson's Reading Room hours: CLOSED until further notice. For appointment with Watkinson staff by Zoom, Mon - Fri: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.

The Watkinson Library is open for remote support, research, and reference requests. All Watkinson staff are available remotely (email, video, audio) for teaching support and research questions from the general public and Trinity College students, faculty, and staff. Watkinson staff can also conduct Introduction to Special Collections and Archives sessions via Zoom and be available to support online classes with digital primary sources. Because the public service work of special collections is highly interactive, in close quarters, and involves interpersonal handling of materials, the Watkinson Reading Room will remain closed until further notice.
