With more than 300 energized fundraising volunteers leading the way, Trinity College’s Giving Day 2021 proved to be a triumph for the Trinity community, raising nearly $2 million.
International Studies major and Religious Studies minor Esther Appiah ’21 will travel to Côte d'Ivoire in January 2022 through the Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) program. The ETA program places Fulbright grant recipients in classrooms in foreign countries to provide assistance to local English teachers and serve as cultural ambassadors for the United States.
In recognition of her dedication to mentoring children, Trinity College senior Madison Gilbertson ’21 has been awarded the Victoria L. Soto Memorial Award by Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters. Gilbertson met with her ‘Little’ for four years while at Trinity, even connecting virtually when schools transitioned to remote learning during the pandemic.
This spring’s new Trinity Authors Series is shining the spotlight on written work by Trinity College alumni and parents. In each monthly entry in the Zoom video series, a Trinity faculty member has a conversation with the featured author about their education, career, and writing process.

Graduating senior Ana Stambolic ’21 has been named a 2021 Yenching Scholar and was awarded a fellowship to pursue an interdisciplinary master’s degree in China Studies at Yenching Academy of Peking University in China.
This year, viewers will be able to watch selected student short films online, culminating in a live awards ceremony announcement on May 8.

As part of Trinity’s “Writing for a Digital World” course to help students learn to communicate effectively online, BuzzFeed community strategist Anna Kopsky offered tips and tricks for creating engaging BuzzFeed “listcles” and for finding success in writing and media professions.
“Everyone has a story to tell,” bestselling author, podcaster, teacher, and columnist Matthew Dicks IDP’99 said to first-year Community Action Gateway students in the spring 2021 “Building Knowledge for Social Change” course. Dicks was invited to talk about the importance that storytelling has in his life and how students can use storytelling in social change initiatives.
Ten tenure-track faculty members will begin new appointments at Trinity College on July 1, 2021, bringing diverse research interests and expertise to campus. “This is an exceptional group of faculty members we’re adding to our ranks,” said Acting Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs Sonia Cardenas.
In the annual Shirley G. Wassong Lecture, Professor of Philosophy Maurice Wade spoke about the work of Caribbean intellectual and activist Lloyd Algernon Best. Wade’s research weaves together philosophy, economics, history, literature, and more into an ambitious interdisciplinary exploration of big questions.
