As part of Trinity’s “Writing for a Digital World” course to help students learn to communicate effectively online, BuzzFeed community strategist Anna Kopsky offered tips and tricks for creating engaging BuzzFeed “listcles” and for finding success in writing and media professions.
“Everyone has a story to tell,” bestselling author, podcaster, teacher, and columnist Matthew Dicks IDP’99 said to first-year Community Action Gateway students in the spring 2021 “Building Knowledge for Social Change” course. Dicks was invited to talk about the importance that storytelling has in his life and how students can use storytelling in social change initiatives.
Ten tenure-track faculty members will begin new appointments at Trinity College on July 1, 2021, bringing diverse research interests and expertise to campus. “This is an exceptional group of faculty members we’re adding to our ranks,” said Acting Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs Sonia Cardenas.
In the annual Shirley G. Wassong Lecture, Professor of Philosophy Maurice Wade spoke about the work of Caribbean intellectual and activist Lloyd Algernon Best. Wade’s research weaves together philosophy, economics, history, literature, and more into an ambitious interdisciplinary exploration of big questions.
More than 350 Trinity alumni volunteered this spring to be matched with a graduating senior through 2021 Connect, a four-week industry-based mentorship program offered by Trinity’s Center for Student Success and Career Development. “My mentorship gave me perspective as to what ‘life beyond the Long Walk’ would look like and how much value a Trinity degree holds,” said Jeffrey Sagun ’21.
The Public Policy and International Affairs program promotes the inclusion of underrepresented groups in public service.
Trinity junior Alicia Camuy ’22 has been selected to receive the Barry Goldwater Scholarship from an estimated pool of more than 5,000 students from across the country. The scholarship is one of the most prestigious awards for students interested in pursuing careers in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering.
To kick off the 15th Trinity International Hip Hop Festival on Friday, April 9, Daniela Gomes, the Patricia C. and Charles H. McGill III ’63 Visiting Assistant Professor of International Studies at Trinity College, will present a lecture discussing hip hop’s role in helping her overcome racial and gender barriers in her journey to a career of scholarship and activism.
Trinity College senior Alisa Levin ’21 has been selected to receive a 2021 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF), which will fund three years of her studies and research work in graduate school. She plans to begin a Ph.D. program in computer science in the fall.

After starting her Trinity career in Costa Rica and adapting to learning during COVID-19, Kelsey Brown ’23 reflects on her unconventional journey and why a “normal” college experience may be overrated—if it exists at all: “Nothing about the college experience is normal to me, but that’s what makes it so exciting.”
Faculty members are responding to the global climate crisis by offering new courses that address climate change through various academic disciplines. “It’s a problem that affects every single person on this planet—not just environmental science majors,” said Professor of Physics and Environmental Science Christoph Geiss.
