The Learning Corridor opened in 2000, just over twenty years ago. Spearheaded by the Southside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance (SINA) and Trinity College, the Learning Corridor brought together the Trinity College Boys and Girls Club and four schools - the Hartford Montessori School, Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, Greater Hartford Academy of Math and Science, and Hartford Magnet Middle School (which would become Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy - or HMTCA - in 2011).

This Spring, the 2020-21 cohort produced outstanding work in partnership with Mutual Aid Hartford, the Connecticut Hall of Change, NARAL Pro-Choice CT, and the YWCA Hartford.

In October 2000, Trinfo.Café opened as a neighborhood technology hub. Growing out of earlier college initiatives to bridge the increasing digital divide of the 1990s, Trinfo was part of a new vision of the College as an active community partner in an increasingly urban and global world.

Program anniversaries, environmental engagement, SINA collaboration, and more

Trinfo Café is fulfilling its mission of being a neighborhood hub this spring.

The CHER team worked with Southside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance (SINA) to convene a virtual community connections meeting on March 19, 2021.

This semester, the 2020-21 cohort is jumping into social change projects with Mutual Aid Hartford, the CT Hall of Change, NARAL Pro-Choice CT, and the YWCA Hartford.

Students across campus are developing civic leadership skills through environmental projects this spring. From ConnPIRG’s office in the basement of Mather Hall to the Multicultural Affairs Council’s plot at the Trinfo garden to composting on Crescent Street, student work toward a more sustainable community is touching all corners of campus.

Several CHER programs are recognizing anniversaries in 2020 and 2021. We are reflecting on twenty-five years of community learning, twenty years of Trinfo.Café, twenty years of the Learning Corridor, ten years of the community garden at Trinfo, and forty years of the Office of Community Service and Civic Engagement. Last year also marked more than two decades of the Thanksgiving and Sponsor-a-Snowman holiday drives and the Jones-Zimmerman Academic Mentoring Program.
