Security Tip: File Request for OneDrive & SharePoint
What is File Requests in OneDrive:
File Requests in OneDrive is a feature that simplifies collecting files from multiple contributors. It allows you to create a request for specific documents, images, or any file type within OneDrive. By sharing a unique link, you invite individuals to upload files directly to a designated location in your OneDrive, streamlining the collection process and keeping all files organized in one place.
With a file request:
- Anyone with the file request link can send a file; they don’t need OneDrive or SharePoint.
- All the files sent to you are saved in your chosen folder.
- Every file will have a prefix to help you identify who uploaded it.
- If two files with the same name are uploaded, OneDrive will automatically add a number to the second file’s name.
- People who respond to your request can only upload files. They can’t view or edit the contents of your OneDrive.
- Set an expiration date on your file request link where, after a date you specify, the link will be disabled.
The article below provides instructions on requesting files, stopping file requests, and uploading a requested file for SharePoint and OneDrive.
Steps to Request Files Using OneDrive:
- Go to OneDrive: Log in to OneDrive at portal.office.com.
- Select Folder for File Requests: Create or select a folder where you want the requested files to be uploaded.
- Open File Request:
- Right-click the folder and select Request Files.
- Alternatively, in the folder view, select the Share button and then choose Request Files.
- Set Request Details:
