The Hatchery

What Is The Hatchery?

The Hatchery is a creative, hands-on space located on Level 1 of Trinity’s Raether Library (Rooms 113, 114, and 115), open to all members of the Trinity community. The space is designed to support exploration, experimentation, and making across disciplines, and for both curricular or personal use.  We hope to build a warm, welcoming community of makers, where people can enhance their academic projects or learn new techniques just because it is fun!

To get access, you can:

  • Check out a card from the LIT Desk for 2 hours
  • Stop by the STA desk during working hours
  • Get 24/7 access by signing the user agreement and taking a tour

Instructional Technologists are happy to consult with faculty interested in incorporating The Hatchery into coursework.

Supporting the Hatchery

The Hatchery is not a lending library. We try to maximize the availability of supplies for everyone based on our limited budget. This means that you are encouraged to use the supplies that are in the room, but we ask that you do not take communal supplies outside of the room.

The Hatchery also happily takes donations. If you are cleaning out a closet or have leftover supplies from a specific project, please consider donating! You can bring your supplies to the STA desk located across from The Hatchery.

Support for You

If a tool appears to be missing, broken, or malfunctioning, please tell a staff member and we will help you resolve the issue. However, while there are many knowledgeable people in the library, we don’t know how to do everything and don’t expect you to either! In addition to the helpful links on this site, you can find a variety of How-To and Instructional Guides related to all sorts of crafting and making downstairs on Level A of the library.
