Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

On Sunday, I traveled to Dover, Massachusetts, to attend a very moving celebration of the life of Chase Hyde, the Trinity senior who died last week. I was there alongside many Trinity community members, and as I heard Chase’s parents refer to him as “our boy,” I realized that’s how we felt about him—he was “our boy” here at Trinity as well. Like each and every student who sets foot on this campus, Chase was a precious member of the Trinity family.

So, as many of you leave campus to be with family and friends for the Thanksgiving holiday, remember that every one of you is precious and an important part of a strong, imperfect but striving community. I give thanks for you as individuals and for the Trinity community you comprise and help move forward.

Best wishes and safe travels. Please hold tight to the strength and values of our community.

Sincerely,

Joanne Berger-Sweeney
President and Trinity College Professor of Neuroscience
