Dear Members of the Trinity College Community,

It is with great sadness that I write with the news that Trustee Michael C. Huebsch ’80 died this week at his home in Darien, Connecticut, after a long illness.

Michael joined the Board of Trustees in July 2015 and served with distinction as a member of the Investment Committee and chair of the Enrollment Committee. He cared deeply about the college and devoted countless hours in service to it. His tenure as a trustee followed service on Trinity’s Board of Fellows from 2010 to 2013.

While our community knows of Michael’s dedication to Trinity, several other institutions also were the beneficiaries of his generous spirit. He served on the boards of Fairfield Country Day School, Deerfield Academy, Middlebury College, and Davidson College, as well as on the Board of Overseers of the School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University.

After graduating from Trinity in 1980 with a B.A. in political science, he earned an M.B.A. in finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In 1989, he joined BlackRock, the global asset manager headquartered in New York City, where he rose to managing director and chaired the Financial Institutions Group and was a member of the firm’s Global Operating Committee.

We will remember Michael as a trusted colleague, a fellow Bantam who demanded even more of himself than of those around him, and a friend on whom one could depend for encouragement and support.

A private memorial service is being planned for Michael’s family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the Huebsch family asks that Michael’s memory be honored with donations to support the work of Dr. Michael Morris at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. We send our deepest sympathies to Michael’s wife, Suzanne; their children, Hunter and Elizabeth; and the entire extended family.

Sincerely,
Joanne Berger-Sweeney
President and Trinity College Professor of Neuroscience
