January 11, 2023

Dear Members of the Trinity College Campus Community,

First, let me wish you all a happy new year filled with joy, success, and a return to better than normal! Today, I write to remind you that the window to comment on two draft policies will close soon, and I encourage your feedback on both.

In November, I wrote to you to share a draft policy about the hanging of flags or symbols on official Trinity College flagpoles. The deadline to submit your comments on this draft is 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17. You may review the draft policy by logging in here, and your comments should be submitted here.

A few days later, I wrote to you with an update on the work of the Committee on Named Facilities and Commemoratives, focusing on the process to consider renaming spaces or commemoratives on campus. The deadline to submit your comments on this draft is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18. A draft process may be reviewed by clicking here, and your comments should be submitted here.

Your input on these two important policies will be considered before they are finalized. I’d like to thank the community members who already have commented on the drafts, and I look forward to receiving additional input before the deadlines close. With your help, these policies will be better and more comprehensive, and, most importantly, will represent the values of our community.

At the beginning of Trinity’s Bicentennial year, I’m excited for what 2023 will bring, starting with a great spring semester.

Sincerely,

Joanne Berger-Sweeney
President and Trinity College Professor of Neuroscience
