2014: Trinity Announces New Vice President of Enrollment and Student Success

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,
I am delighted to announce the appointment of Angel B. Perez as the new Vice President of Enrollment and Student Success at Trinity College. In this capacity, Angel will focus on assuring that Trinity attracts the highest quality students, expands its geographic reach, and enrolls and retains an outstanding, diverse student body. Angel comes to Trinity from Pitzer College in Claremont, California, where he currently serves as Vice President and Dean of Admission.
As you know, identifying the right person to lead Trinity’s admissions efforts has been one of my highest priorities. Following the announcement of the retirement of Larry Dow, our current Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, our search team set about identifying an individual who would bring proven skills and experience in recruiting top students at a college like Trinity. We sought to find someone who brought a deep understanding of the value of interdisciplinary liberal arts education and of an engaged student body. Angel immediately stood out as someone who possessed these characteristics and who also brought an appealing personal warmth.
Angel has spent the last eight years at Pitzer College, one of the seven highly selective Claremont Colleges. At Pitzer, Angel led an 18-member team, and under his leadership Pitzer received the highest number of applications, the highest yield, and the lowest admit rate in its history. Just as important, he was a leader among leaders, forming strong working partnerships with the offices of student affairs, academic affairs, international programs, athletics, and institutional research—a collaborative quality that is essential as Trinity moves forward. Prior to joining Pitzer in 2007, Angel was Associate Dean of Admission and Financial Aid at Claremont McKenna College, also within the Claremont Colleges, where he served since 2004. He also served as a college counselor and head of a community-based organization in New York City, helping first-generation students apply to college. Angel earned a B.S. from Skidmore College, an M.A. from Columbia University, and a Ph.D., expected this year, from Claremont Graduate University. He is the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship, among other distinctions, and is the author of numerous articles. You can read more about his background at http://angelbperez.com/.
