This website provides information on the hazards associated with lasers and laser systems, and on the policies and procedures in place at Trinity College which are intended to mitigate those hazards.  The Trinity laser safety program is based on ANSI Z136.1 American National Standard for Safe Use of Lasers, the accepted standard for laser safety in the United States.

All lasers of hazard class 1M, 2M, 3R, 3B, and 4 are regulated at Trinity. Users of these lasers must follow the requirements outlined here and detailed in the Laser Safety Manual.  Low-powered laser pointers and class 3R laser pointers are not regulated, though users are encouraged to follow general laser safety guidelines.  Be aware that not all hand-held pen-shaped lasers are “laser pointers,” and may actually fall into one of the more hazardous laser classes listed above.

Laser safety policies are established by the Laser Safety Committee, and implemented by the Laser Safety Officer.
