September 18, 2020

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

We had promised to revisit the decision to temporarily prohibit organized gatherings of any significant size and are writing today with an updated determination. We had set Sept. 20 as the date by which we might be able to allow such gatherings and ease some other specific restrictions.

Given our current elevated campus alert level and the careful work now to contain the spread of the virus, we have determined it is not prudent at this time to relax any restrictions currently in place. Please know we will reevaluate this status weekly and let you know if/when we feel we can alter it.

For now, the college remains at alert level yellow. As we reported previously, our count of active cases has increased significantly this week. We ask all members of the campus community to be especially diligent in following all health and safety protocols: the wearing of face coverings, frequent hand washing/sanitizing, proper physical distancing, daily symptom checks, and regular COVID-19 testing. Students, please remember to call the Health Center (860-297-2018) if you are not feeling well or are experiencing symptoms listed on your daily health report via the CoVerified app.

This period—particularly as we head into the weekend—is critical in our ability to halt the spread of the virus. Your commitment to following necessary health and safety practices can make the difference in allowing us to continue with in-person learning and on-campus living.

Sincerely,

Joe DiChristina, Vice President for Student Success and Enrollment Management
Jason Rojas, Chief of Staff and Associate Vice President for External Relations
