The audience is invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics to Trinity’s Main Quad every Wednesday in July, as they enjoy the music of the 49-bell Plumb Memorial Carillon, one of approximately 200 such instruments in North America.
Vernon Social will transform into the Cornelia Parsons ’80 Center, the new home of the Career and Life Design Center, formerly the Center for Student Success and Career Development, and is anticipated to become a hub of student-centered activity.
The Trinity College Board of Trustees has approved the promotions to the position of associate professor with tenure of Molly Helt, Peter Kyle, Timothy Landry, and Robert Outten. The Board also voted to appoint Priscilla Meléndez as full professor with tenure.
President Joanne Berger-Sweeney has announced the appointment of four new trustees to the Trinity College Board of Trustees. They are: LaTanya Langley ’97, H’17; Jamie Tracey Szal ’06; William G. Thomas III ’86, P’20; and James Yu ’87. In addition, Lisa Bisaccia ’78 took over as chair of the board. They began their terms on July 1, 2021.
After Associate Professor of Psychology David A. Reuman taught his last class at Trinity in the spring 2021 semester, his daughter Lillian Reuman surprised him with a book called ‘Professor Reuman’s Lasting Lessons.’ The compilation included 40 written contributions from David’s former students, colleagues, and family members.
During the second admissions cycle to be greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Trinity College has enrolled 553 outstanding students as its Class of 2025. “Our choices were driven by the strength of character the students demonstrated, along with their academic motivation and preparedness,” said Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Adrienne Oddi. “We have an amazing group of Bantams coming.”
For their senior computer science project, Alisa Levin ’21 and Rahul Mitra ’21 successfully built a cost-effective new way to help visually-impaired people navigate safely through their environments.
“The pandemic has taught us that we can’t go back to the way things were, nor should we want to. You are too good, too smart, and too wise to go back to normal. You will make a future that is better than normal,” Hartford HealthCare President and CEO Jeffrey A. Flaks said to the graduates of the Trinity College Class of 2021 during his Commencement address. “There is, as they say, a light at the end of this long tunnel. That light is you. This is your moment to shine.”
A grant awarded to Trinity by the Council of Independent Colleges will be used to continue building and archiving the Watkinson Library’s “Hispanic Hartford” collection, or “Voces de la Migración: Hartford History Makers,” which includes oral histories and interviews with members of the Latinx community in Hartford.
Trinity student Elizabeth Sockwell '21 created the 4C Tree Project in Newton, Massachusetts, to honor those who have lost their lives due to COVID-19. The project 4C, spearheaded by Green Newton’s Environmental Youth Leadership Program, stands for “Capture, Carbon, Commemorate COVID-19.”
