Health Center FAQs

There is a $20 fee for new complaint visits; the health center does not take cash for payments or bill insurance for the office visit. You do need to bring your insurance information with you to each appointment for labs and out-of-office care (referrals, diagnostics). Any incurred expense that happens at the health center will be applied to the student’s account as a “health center’ charge.

Over the counter medications are available for purchase at the health center. Any over the counter medications will be billed to your student account. We e-prescribe to pharmacies and use your private/student health insurance.  A local Walgreens pharmacy delivers prescriptions to campus M-F after setting up an account with them. If your illness occurs while the office is closed, you can call the health center at 860-297-2018 to speak to receive health advice via telephone triage. You also have the option to schedule a virtual or in person appointment at the Hartford HealthCare-GoHealth Urgent Care.

The Health Center only offers primary care, all urgent or emergent care is referred off campus. Call 911 or Campus Safety at 860-297-2222 and they will call an ambulance to transport you to a local emergency department. The nearest hospitals are Hartford Hospital and Connecticut Children’s.

Prescription contraceptives are available to you with an “annual GYN” appointment. Please schedule an appointment to discuss what options may be best for you. Referrals may be made for long-acting reversible contraceptives, such as IUDs and Nexplanon, according to your risk factors and personal preference.

Emergency contraception (e.g., Plan B) is available at TCHC during office hours and without a prescription at local pharmacies. It can be taken up to 72 hours [3 days] after unprotected sex and is very safe and well tolerated.

TCHC has the following hours during the academic year:

Monday – Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (last appointment is 4:00 PM)

During breaks (J-term, spring)

Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM  (last appointment is 12:30 PM)

Summer: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:00 AM -1:00 PM
