Who Is Considered a Transfer Applicant?

  • Applicants who have matriculated at another collegiate institution, regardless of completed work, are considered transfer candidates.
  • Applicants who have not matriculated at another collegiate institution but have accumulated a minimum of four (4) completed full-credit courses (or the equivalent) are generally considered transfer candidates.
  • If you will be 24 years old or older, when you matriculate at Trinity College, then we invite you to explore admission to the College through our Individualized Degree Program (IDP).

Please note that students may apply as transfer students as early as their first semester in college; however, we recommend that they complete a full year so we can review their college work.

Candidates for First-Year Admissions

Applicants who have registered for college classes on a non-matriculant, non-degree-seeking basis only, may register as first-year candidates. This includes students who have taken college courses for high school credit.

Individualized Degree Program (IDP) Candidates

For individuals pursuing completion of a bachelor’s degree who will be 24 years old or older when matriculating, Trinity College offers the Individualized Degree Program (IDP).  IDP offers full or part-time study, a flexible timeframe for degree completion, mentoring and advising, IDP-dedicated staff members, and a customized admissions and transfer credit process.  Applicants who prefer to apply to Trinity through this program for greater flexibility are asked to contact the IDP office to complete a specific application.

Trinity IDP is designed for students who seek the challenging, substantive academic experience Trinity is known for, together with the support and services adult learners need and want.  We welcome all applicants at least 24 years old or self-supporting, and our community of non-traditional students includes veterans, second bachelor’s degree candidates, and international students.

If you would like to learn more about the differences between transferring into Trinity’s general undergraduate program and IDP, please contact the Office of Admissions at (860) 297-2180 or [email protected].
