December 19, 2021

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

We write today to provide an update on the presence of COVID-19 within our community. Test results (both from self-reported rapid tests and our on-campus testing protocol) from Thursday, December 16, through Sunday, December 19 have revealed 11 new cases within our student community. There is one employee case. All individuals are isolating away from campus. Through our contact tracing protocol, we have identified that the student cases are connected to a small cluster of individuals in living areas and we do not have evidence that any transmission took place in classroom settings.

We continue to monitor the latest information about a new variant (Omicron) of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. According to the CDC, the Omicron variant will likely spread more easily than the original SARS-CoV-2 and other variants. Reports are showing a significant increase in cases across the United States and globally.

Therefore, in an effort to protect the health and safety of our community, we are taking additional precautions at this time.

  1. The faculty will have the option to administer final exams remotely this week. Faculty will communicate directly with students if they are switching to remote exams.
  2. Human Resources supports employees contacting their supervisor to inquire about the possibility to work remotely this week if it is feasible for the individual employee’s role.
  3. In dining halls, more to-go containers will be available to reduce the number of people in Mather. Please do not bring food to the library or classrooms.
  4. All students and employees should refrain from social gatherings.

In order to mitigate the spread of the virus, it is important that everyone remains vigilant regarding the wearing of masks indoors. Please adhere to this policy.

We are proud of our Bantam community and encourage all of us to continue to show care and concern for each other. We have updated the dashboard to reflect the latest data and will keep you informed as appropriate.

Sincerely,

Joe DiChristina, Vice President for Student Success and Enrollment ManagementJason Rojas, Chief of Staff and Associate Vice President for External Relations
