The Trin-HMTCA Tutors program was launched in fall 2022 as an afterschool program with 15 Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy (HMTCA) mentees and 15 Trinity metors. This spring, the program has grown to include 30 HMTCA mentees with the help of a Hartford Public Schools Equity and Innovation Grant.
This academic year, Trinity is connecting in new ways with Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy (HMTCA), the inter-district magnet school located in the Learning Corridor. A growing number of HMTCA students will take classes on Trinity’s campus and Trinity students will have new opportunities to mentor and tutor at HMTCA.
This spring, the current cohort of students in the Jones-Zimmerman Academic Mentoring Program (J-Z AMP) are completing their third and final year in the program. Middle school students in the program spend three years, from sixth grade through eighth grade, working with Trinity College student mentors. Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy (HMTCA) and Trinity College have worked together through J-Z AMP for twenty years to put on the annual program that includes homework help, tutoring, and enrichment activities.
