COVID-19 Update: Alert Level Status at Green
October 26, 2020
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
This morning, we are pleased to report that we are returning to alert level green, with two active cases within our student community (and only one of those in isolation on campus). It is clear that our continued efforts to wear masks, to maintain proper physical distancing, to isolate and quarantine when required, and to provide routine surveillance testing have helped us limit the spread of the virus.
While the alert level is green, we will continue with some higher-level precautions regarding dining, residence hall access, and essential travel out of an abundance of caution. For this week, the following practices will be in effect:
- Dining will remain as grab-and-go; no seating is permitted inside dining facilities
- Students’ residence hall access is limited to their own residence; students may visit individuals on other floors, and common areas are now open; students must wear face coverings and maintain a minimum of 6 feet of physical distance from one another if you are in a room with someone other than your suitemate or apartment mate(s)
- Students living off-campus may not be in residence halls; students in campus housing may not visit off-campus houses
- As described in our September 30 message, visitors will again be allowed in limited circumstances and for per-approved reasons only. This applies to Cinestudio, Trinfo.Café, Admissions, and the major league soccer team from Toronto that is using our soccer field for practice.
- Outdoor organized group activities are permitted on campus, but they must be of limited size (no more than 25) and supervised by a faculty/staff member.
- Unsupervised groups of students may gather outside informally to socialize and dine, but groups may not be larger than six people, and face coverings must be worn except when eating.
It is essential that we not let down our guard and that we continue to practice mask wearing, distancing, and limiting gatherings. We are seeing a global and national resurgence in COVID-19 cases, including an increase in the Hartford area and the state of Connecticut. This means that all of us must remain vigilant in our efforts to contain the virus. Therefore, students may not travel from campus (including locally) for nonessential reasons such as dining at restaurants or going to bars. If you need to travel for an important matter (e.g., a doctor’s appointment, to vote on November 3rd) please contact the office of the dean of student life at [email protected]. The office will respond with instructions on what steps you need to take while off campus and when you return. It is very important that you consult this office in advance about your need to travel.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our community healthy and safe. As a community we have been resilient in living and learning on a college campus during a pandemic. We encourage you to remain diligent in adhering to health protocols as we begin the remaining four weeks of in-person learning.
Sincerely,
Joe DiChristina, Vice President for Student Success and Enrollment Management
Jason Rojas, Chief of Staff and Associate Vice President for External Relations
