We had the opportunity to work closely this semester with two students.

Among other things, they wrote awesome reflections on some of our Global Vantage Point Talks. Click any title below to read more:

“Being a part of the Cities Program has introduced me to a copious amount of opportunities, including being able to work for CUGS. I remember when I wasn’t sure if I had made the right choice about my gateway. Looking back. I definitely did. On the first day of class, I felt so comfortable, and then I knew that urban studies would be a major for me. When I first heard about the job opportunity, I knew that it was perfect for me, and I have enjoyed the time that I spent here this semester. As a first year, I have not declared my major yet. When I do declare, I will be declaring a double major in urban studies and sociology. CUGS and the Cities Program were the strong deciding factors in my major. I also had the opportunity to attend several Global Vantage Point lectures and I enjoyed being able to engage and think critically about each presentation. I am excited to continue my journey in the urban studies field and within CUGS. ” -Tanzanikia Taylor ’23

“Having been a part of CUGS since taking part in the Cities Program during my freshman and sophomore years, and consequently declaring a double major in Urban Studies and International Studies, I was excited to start working for CUGS this semester. I have very much enjoyed attending the Global Vantage Point lectures this semester. We have featured a range of topics and guest speakers who have given superb insight into important issues. In addition, writing reviews of a select few lectures has allowed me to engage with the presentations and demonstrate the important work being done at CUGS to a wider audience. Furthermore, behind the scenes, I have been curating the CUGS mailing list to help maintain the flow of information going forward. Aside from my work at CUGS, I am currently in Professor Myers’ Global Cities class where I have particularly enjoyed learning about decolonizing the field of urban studies and our recent study of Singapore. I am also the Global Ambassador for both the Trinity in Barcelona and Trinity in Cape Town study away programs. This has been a great way to encourage student interest in the programs that I was fortunate enough to take part in. Finally, I am a first-year mentor for the Cities Program. This experience has felt very cyclical and afforded me the opportunity to help guide students who were in the same position as I was three years ago.”-Hannah Ward ’20
