NOW OPEN! Spring 2025 Trinity in Cape Town: Human Rights in Urban South Africa
The Office of Study Away is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for Trinity undergraduate students to participate in a human rights-focused internship study away experience in Cape Town, South Africa for the spring 2025 semester. This immersive program offers students the chance to engage with real-world human rights issues, learn from local experts, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of justice and equality.
The Trinity in Cape Town study abroad program offers a transformative travel experience to South Africa centered on learning about human rights in a multilingual, urban context. With a strong emphasis on internships, students immerse themselves in the complexities of human rights issues while gaining practical skills and cultural understanding through engaging with the human rights challenges in one of Africa’s most dynamic and culturally rich cities. Cape Town’s history of apartheid and ongoing social justice struggles serve as the primary backdrop for students to better understand, explore, and contribute to human rights initiatives being spearheaded by inspiring people and organizations of the Global South.
Academic Highlights
- Program core course, “Imagining South Africa” (CPTN 279) taught by Trinity College Academic Director based on-site in Cape Town
- Course at UWC Center for Multilingualism and Diversities Research along with a community engagement internship
- In addition, students will take two courses at the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
- Recommended majors/possible areas of study: economics, African studies, international studies, music, theater and dance, political science, psychology, environmental studies, human rights, urban studies, public policy and law, anthropology, sociology, history and more.
