Accessibility tools

The following resources are available for making digital materials more accessible:

• SensusAccess is a tool that converts documents into a range of alternative formats including digital Braille, MP3, DAISY and e-books. The service can also be used to convert otherwise inaccessible documents such as image-only PDF files or scanned images into more accessible formats.
• Kaltura captioning services will automatically generate captions for any audio or video file. You can then edit the captions for additional accuracy.
  • Notes on terminology: Closed captions are detailed texts that optionally display along with a video. Subtitles are similar, but they are foreign language translations of the dialog only. A transcript is a downloadable or scrollable version of the closed captions sequence that sometimes appears alongside a video while playing.
