FAQs

  • We are trying to improve recycling rates and decrease contamination in our recycling. Using central waste stations has been shown to do both of those things as it encourages individuals to think a little bit more about which bin to use for each item they have to discard. Many colleges have seen less recycling in the trash, and recycling rates increase by 20+%.
  • It will also reduce the number of plastic bags used to collect trash and recycling, which helps the environment and saves the school money.
  • Lastly, this will free up some custodial time to focus on other tasks like cleaning.
  • Custodians will no longer collect the trash or recycling from your office. Instead, you will be expected to bring your trash and recycling to the central waste station on each floor of the building (see below).
  • Custodians will continue to clean your offices once per week. They will provide plastic bags for your trash can, but we encourage you only to change the bag when necessary to reduce waste.

You can, however, we encourage you to use the central waste stations we set up specifically for this program. We are trying to collect the most accurate data we can, so we would appreciate your support and participation using the designated waste areas (listed above).
