Charter Oak Landing
50 Reserve Road, Hartford, CT
Charter Oak Landing, one of Riverfront Recapture’s four parks, is located just south of downtown Hartford in the Sheldon-Charter Oak neighborhood. Built on the site of a former naval shipyard, the park started to take shape in 1986 as part of Riverfront Recapture’s master plan to restore public access to the Connecticut River. Visitors may take advantage of fishing access and a boat launch, a playground built in 2019 by Travelers volunteers, picnic tables and charcoal grills, and more. Charter Oak Landing also provides a great spot for photos of the Hartford skyline, and it’s a good place to start and end the Two Bridge Loop, one of several paths ideal for exercise. In addition, a paved walkway along the river leads north to downtown’s Mortensen Riverfront Plaza and then to Riverside Park. From there, miles of dirt trails extend almost to the Hartford-Windsor town line. All Riverfront Recapture parks, including Great River Park in East Hartford, are open from sunrise to sunset, 365 days a year.
