Educational Studies majors will:

  • Engage with the study of education from interdisciplinary perspectives, including exploring a self-selected area of the field in depth.
  • Consider the range of educational and learning experiences within and beyond formal educational institutions.
  • Understand the ways in which education is situated within broader local, national, and global contexts, systems, and structures.
  • Analyze how (in)equality and (in)justice shape educational systems and structures, including movements that have sought to effect change in education.
  • Imagine possibilities for educational equity and justice by applying lessons from theory, research, and practice on education and social change.
  • Develop independent research skills, including posing thought-provoking research questions, identifying and using appropriate primary sources, engaging in ethical research, and crafting and supporting arguments with data.
