Community Action Gateway Students Connect with Hartford Changemakers CACT 101

Fourteen students completed the first semester of the Community Action Gateway (CACT), taught by Professor Elise Castillo of the Educational Studies Program, and supported by mentors Makayla Cervantes ‘26 and Raven Reynoso ‘28. CACT is a selective, year-long first-year program for students interested in social change and community engagement. The students developed new profiles for the Hartford Changemakers collection.

Students Exploring Hartford Through Videos: CACT 101

Last fall semester, students enrolled in the first year Community Action Gateway 101 (CACT 101) course worked on a semester-long project to support CHER’s Exploring Hartford page by creating interactive videos showcasing key spots students can find in the city.

CHER Community Engagement Fellows Build and Strengthen Community Partnerships

During the Fall 2024 semester, Linnea Mayo '26 and Saanvi Bajaj’ '27 served as Community Engagement Fellows for the Center of Hartford Engagement and Research (CHER). As fellows, they aim to inspire Trinity College students to explore Hartford beyond the campus boundaries, foster a sense of community among other CHER students, and advocate for destigmatizing preconceived notions about the city. This semester they have emphasized building long-term community partnerships and relationships within Hartford.

VITA Tax Clinic Works with Action Lab’s Family Finance Project this Tax Season

Now in its sixth year, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) clinic at Trinfo.Cafe is expanding its free tax preparation services and support network through collaboration with the Liberal Arts Action Lab Family Finance Project. These efforts underscore the clinic’s crucial role in supporting low income families and advocating for policy changes in Hartford.

CHER Community Engagement Fellows Get Trinity Students ‘Out and About’ in Hartford

Linnea Mayo '26 and VySa Nguyen '26, as Community Engagement Fellows for CHER, have worked to deepen the connections between the Trinity College and the City of Hartford. Their efforts focus on encouraging students to explore Hartford's diverse communities and cultural offerings, while also working to change any negative perceptions about the city.
