Office of International Students and Scholars

The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) is a multi-faceted resource that supports current and prospective members of Trinity's diverse international community. The office assists students and scholars with immigration matters; it acts as a liaison with sponsoring agencies and foreign governments; and it helps strengthen the bonds between Trinity's international students and scholars, domestic students, and the communities of greater Hartford and across the world. In addition to Trinity's dynamic corps of international scholars who enrich the college through teaching and research, the student population includes over 270 undergraduates from  over 70 countries across the globe.

The entire Trinity community has been transformed by the contributions made by international scholars through research and teaching. The OISS seeks to do everything it can to help make and support Trinity's "Global Village." Our international students and scholars have given the campus a vibrancy that is reflected in the classroom and in the culture.  And to encourage multicultural awareness through the interaction with international students, the OISS and the iHouse (International House), support the international students by providing the following services:

  • Counseling on personal and procedural issues pertaining to immigration, visa acquisition, U.S. academic culture, and adjusting to life on campus
  • Informing foreign students and scholars about changes in immigration regulations and reminders about maintaining their status
  • Holding workshops to assist students and scholars adjust to the U.S. and understand immigration regulations to maximize their Trinity experience. Workshop topics include: working on & off campus (CPT/OPT); obtaining a US driver's license, study away for international students, life after OPT-immigration, and adapting to the US classroom!
Travel Advisory for International Students/Scholars

Please note that this Executive Order is currently under a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction, which prevents enforcement at this time. This situation may change rapidly. Please see the link to the Travel Advisory at the bottom of the page for evolving developments.

We do not advise any unnecessary travel outside of the United States for students and scholars from the six countries affected by the Executive Order signed on March 6 and effective March 16 including Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. While this order does not affect those with a current and valid visa, you should be aware of when your visa expires and check with OISS before making any travel plans outside of the United States as you can be subject to the suspension if you travel with an expired visa.

For admitted students or applicants from countries affected by the Executive Order: At this time, the visa suspensions/travel restrictions are temporary for a period of 90 days ending by June 14. You should proceed as normal with your application.

If you are from a country not affected by the Executive Order, please note that if you do need to travel outside the United States and need to renew a visa, that the Visa Interview Waiver Program has been suspended and all visa renewals require an in-person interview at this time. This may cause delays in processing that may affect your travel plans in returning to the United States. We suggest that you build in additional time to account for these delays. You may also experience delays at your port of entry due to additional stresses on Customs & Border Patrol.

Please be aware that this order does involve wording that enables other countries to be added after a review period. When more information becomes available, OISS will

In the meantime, please refer to the NAFSA Travel Advisory  for developing news and updates.
