The attacks on New York’s World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 prompted the creation of numerous works of art that grappled with and attempted to memorialize the tragedy of that day.

Join us at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 11< in Watkinson Library to see some of the art that emerged from that day and to help us construct Werner Pfeiffer’s provocative and moving tribute Out of The Sky: Remembering 9/11.

As a reminder that acts of memorialization are always complex affairs—involving not simply the act of remembering but also of misremembering and even willful forgetting—we will construct Pfeiffer’s work alongside art that commemorates another tragedy: the U.S.-backed coup d’état that overthrew the democratically elected government of Chilean President Salvador Allende on September 11, 1973.
