Facilities Services will begin the process of switching from cooling to heating on Friday, October 29. The changeover process is approximately 10–14 days.

Barring any unforeseen issues, all facilities will receive heat by Friday, November 12. Please note: There are many buildings and systems that need to be changed over, which means that some buildings will receive heat prior to others. 

Weather in the fall and spring can fluctuate from hot to cold and cold to hot within a matter of days. The physical plant that supplies HVAC to the campus operates on a two-pipe system that cannot be switched on and off from air conditioning to heat or heat to air conditioning without significant adjustments. The physical plant staff carefully monitors temperatures and makes a recommendation when to convert to heat or air conditioning. The following general guidelines have been established: 

Fall—Turning on Heat: In cooling mode, we track the 14-day average for high and low temperatures. When the average high falls to the mid 50’s and the average low falls to the mid 40’s we begin the changeover process.
