From June 29 to September 3, work will be done to upgrade the fire alarm control panel in the Library and Information Technology Center. During this period when the fire alarm system will not be operational, there will be an around-the-clock fire watch for the entire building. Read on for emergency procedures.

This means Campus Safety and other trained personnel (wearing identifiable vests) will be on-site throughout the building to monitor for fire or other hazards that require evacuation. If a fire is detected, the fire watch employees will use megaphones and the building’s public address system to alert all in the building that a hazard has been found and the building must be evacuated. All fire watch personnel are trained to use fire extinguishers and to evacuate the building safely. Anyone who encounters smoke or fire in the building should call 911.

All work, monitoring, and evacuation procedures are conducted in a manner that complies with the Hartford Fire Department’s rules and regulations.
