Translation in Practice

Students in the Translation in Practice Certificate program will develop academic and practical skills in translation by taking LACS 218: “The Task of the Translator” in the Department of Language and Culture Studies, and by practicing translation in professional settings with one or two partners through internship and/or Study Away programs. Typically, students will work as interns or assistants for companies, non-profit organizations, or educational communities such as libraries and childhood centers.

Credit 1: 
LACS 218 – The Task of the Translator (Grade B or higher)

Credit 2:
Complete 1.0 credit P/F internship or an experiential activity with a partner in the community, remotely, or through a Study Away program

Credit 3:
Complete 1.0 credit P/F internship or an experiential activity with a partner in the community, remotely, or through a Study Away program that is significantly different than what was utilized for credit 2
LACS 299 – Language, Culture, and Meaning
Complete a 300 level course in the target language if the course includes a substantial translation project
Complete two 0.5 credit units of Language Across the Curriculum
