America’s Founding Visions: Declarations, Reactions, Provocations, Curated by Eric Johnson-DeBaufre

This exhibit looks at the way that America’s founding documents appeared to a variety of people across space and time and to the variety of ways they responded to them. It focuses on contemporary reaction to the Declaration of Independence and to mid-19th century engagements with both the Declaration and the U.S. Constitution in light of pressing social issues of the day. We hope that it will stimulate reflection on the way the story of America gets told and on the voices frequently omitted from that narrative.
