The Economics Department welcome two new faculty members: Thanos Moraitis and Betül Mutlugün.
Thanos Moraitis joins us as a Lecturer in Economics. Moraitis is completing his Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, with research interests spanning business cycles, financial crises, and technical change. He holds a B.A. in Economics from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens and an M.Sc. in Development Economics from SOAS, University of London, both awarded with honors. Moraitis brings extensive teaching experience, having served as a Teaching Assistant at SOAS University of London, Goldsmiths University of London, and UMass Amherst. His research has appeared in peer-reviewed journals and a recently published book exploring contemporary issues in the global capitalist system. At Trinity, Moraitis will teach “Europe and the EU: Economic Dynamics”, integrating his expertise and global perspective into the classroom.
Betül Mutlugün joins our department as an Assistant Professor of Economics. She earned her Ph.D. from Istanbul University, focusing on macroeconomics, international finance, and income distribution. Previously, she worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business, CA., and as a researcher and lecturer at Istanbul University. Her research adopts a theory-driven, empirical approach using applied econometrics to address macroeconomic issues. At Trinity, Mutlugün will teach “International Finance”, “Intro Global Trade and Finance”, and “Time Series Analysis”, fostering critical thinking and real-world application in her students.
