Every year, each department selects one senior with an exemplary academic record to receive the President’s Fellow prize. This year, the Economics Department selected Grace Denious, a senior from Wilton, Connecticut. Grace is majoring in Economics with a minor in Formal Organizations.
Grace traces her interest in Economics back to high school, where she found herself drawn equally to both math and English. “I always enjoyed both math and English, so I knew that I wanted to find a major that could suit both analytical and theoretical thinking,” she says. When she arrived at Trinity, she was especially drawn to the way the Economics Department encourages both creativity and analytical rigor. “What excites me most about Economics is how flexible and applicable it is to many real-world scenarios. It challenges me to think technically while still interpreting the bigger picture.”
Several courses have played a defining role in Grace’s academic journey. She describes her first-year seminar, Designing Your Future Work, as transformative: “This course pushed me to think about what my strengths are and how I can use them both at Trinity and afterwards.” She also points to Introduction to Computing as one of the most challenging yet rewarding courses she has taken, despite having no prior background in computer science. Another favorite was Game Theory, which she found especially engaging through hands-on strategic simulations in class.
Outside the classroom, Grace has been a key leader on the Women’s Lacrosse Team and will serve as a team captain again this spring. She credits the team as one of the most meaningful parts of her Trinity experience. One of her most memorable moments on campus came during this year’s Parents Weekend. “Having my family on campus and being able to show them all the parts of Trinity that have meant so much to me was incredibly special,” she says. After graduation, Grace will join The Riverside Company, a private equity firm in New York City, as a full-time analyst with the firm’s Micro-Cap fund, following a successful summer internship.
The department congratulates Grace on this well-deserved recognition.
