Data science provides the tools needed to make sense of complicated, high-dimensional data, build models that are reliable and understandable, and effectively communicate outcomes and results that make a difference. With Trinity situated in a capital city that is rich with healthcare, insurance, and technological data and opportunities to work with it, the data science major at Trinity allows students to develop the technical expertise and leadership skills needed to shape the future of an ever-changing and digital world.

The data science major is built upon three critical themes: probability and statistics, computation, and data analysis.

Probability and statistics serve as the mathematical foundation for interpreting data and building models for forecasting and making evidence-based decisions.

Computation involves developing the programming skills, algorithm development, and structural frameworks required to engage with big datasets and extract meaningful results.

Data analysis aims to extract accurate insights from real, complex datasets that arise in interdisciplinary applications.

These three interconnected themes give students the theoretical knowledge, computational tools, and practical problem-solving skills to meaningfully work with data that arises in industry, finance, politics, and science.
