Scheduled Steam Pipe Repair Beginning November 24
On Monday, November 24, beginning at 7:00 a.m., heat to several buildings on campus will be shut down to facilitate the repair of a steam pipe leak. Read on for details.
Heat will need to be turned off to the following buildings to facilitate the repair. In some cases, buildings will also be without hot water (cold water will remain available in all impacted buildings):
- Austin Arts—no heat; yes hot water
- Chemistry—no heat; yes hot water
- Mather Hall—no heat; no hot water
- Hamlin Hall—no heat; yes hot water
- Seabury Hall—no heat; no hot water
- Northam Towers—no heat; no hot water
- Jarvis Hall—no heat; no hot water
- Chapel—no heat; yes hot water
Excavation will take place on the Gates Quad and in the area of the Funston Courtyard outside the Raether Library and Information Technology Center. Additionally, beginning this weekend, the parking lot on the west side of the Ferris Athletics Center will be closed for equipment and materials staging.
We anticipate that heat and hot water will be back within 24 hours, but it may take as long as 48 hours. We will communicate updates to you if the timeline changes. Facilities staff will be monitoring the temperatures inside the affected buildings to ensure that temperatures remain at acceptable levels in all buildings throughout the duration of the project. Should temperatures fall to uncomfortable levels, we will provide options to those living or working in those spaces.
Staff from the Bantam Network Residential Learning Community will contact students in affected residence halls to provide access to showers in other areas of campus.
We apologize for the inconvenience these necessary repairs may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to restore full service as quickly as possible.
