Semester or Year-long
Eligibility:
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, however many programs have higher GPA requirements.
- Students must be in good academic and social standing at Trinity College (before and during the global program).
- Students can spend a maximum of 3 semesters on one or more global programs.
- Students can study abroad or do US-Study during their sophomore, junior or senior year (final semester study abroad or US-Study requires additional approval from the Registrar’s Office).
- Transfer students are eligible to participate on global programs.
- International Programs: Students must have a valid passport with an expiration date six months beyond the end date of the program. (Ex: If a program ends in December, a passport must be valid until the following June).
IMPORTANT: Students are only able to apply to ONE program unless they are advised otherwise by the GEO.
Requirements:
- Students must enroll in a full semester of academic credit while on a global program.
- All courses must be in the liberal arts disciplines and approved by the relevant academic departments and Registrar’s Office. Students can-not take courses without approval.
- All courses and grades will appear on the student’s Trinity College transcript. Grades earned on a global program will calculate into the student’s Trinity College GPA.
- Students may only apply or request approval for one study abroad or US-study program for a specific semester. Students should not apply or request approval for multiple programs unless they are specifically advised to by the GEO to do so.
- Programs with internships: The internship must have an academic course attached to the experience to be considered for academic credit by the Registrar’s Office. Trinity College will not grant credit for the internship alone.
- HOUSING POLICY: Students are required to live in program or Trinity-sponsored housing as detailed in our Housing Policy. Independent housing is not permitted except in extraordinary circumstances.
STEP 1: RESEARCH PROGRAMS
Selecting the right Global Program for you requires research, which can significantly impact your experience. Research will help you narrow down the options to one or two programs.
WHEN TO DO THIS: Start early. EX: If you plan to study abroad or do US-Study in the Fall of your junior year, research programs during the Fall semester of your sophomore year.

- Trinity Signature Programs are administered by Trinity College and include:
- Affiliated Global Programs (AGPs) are not administered by Trinity College but are approved for Trinity students to attend.
- Program Petitions: If a student is interested in a program NOT currently approved by the Global Engagement Office they must submit a program petition. Spring deadline April 15th, Fall deadline December 15th. Learn about the Petition Process here.
- Visit the How to Select a Global Program Guide.
- Begin discussing program possibilities with your Academic Adviser to make sure that your preferred programs are a good fit academically. You may want to discuss specific courses offered by those programs to learn whether they will count toward your major or minor.
- Talk with friends or fellow students who have gone on these programs. The GEO can connect you with alumni of many global programs.

STEP 2: GENERAL GLOBAL PROGRAMS ADVISING
Students are encouraged to meet with our GEO Peer Advisors to learn more about important dates, processes and financial information before submitting an External Program Request to Study Away or program application. Only apply or request approval to one program unless advised otherwise by the GEO.
WHEN TO DO THIS: Start early. EX: If you plan to study in the Fall of your junior year, meet with the GEO during the Fall semester of your sophomore year.
HOW TO DO THIS: Schedule an Appointment on Handshake with a peer or professional advisor. Login to Handshake → Other Campus Resources → Select the appointment type that meets your needs
STEP 3: APPLY
After you have decided on your preferred program, it’s time to apply! Some programs have early deadlines and fill quickly. APPLY EARLY!

FALL & YEAR-LONG DEADLINES:
We recommend students apply during the J-Term before their upcoming fall or year-long global program term.

We recommend students apply during the summer before their upcoming spring semester global program term.

- SEPTEMBER 15TH –
HOW TO DO THIS:
- Trinity Signature Programs: Submit a program application through the link found on the specific Trinity programs’ website. Students applying to a Trinity signature program do not submit the External Program Request to Study Away.
- Affiliated Global Programs (AGPs): Submit an External Program Request to Study Away. Once your request is approved, apply directly to your approved program on their website.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: Students who are planning to petition for a non-approved global program have an earlier deadline. See the Program Petition Process website for more information.
Apply to ONE program unless advised otherwise by the GEO.
