For the sixth year in a row, a one-week intensive fundraising effort where Bantams and their supporters come together to raise funds for athletics at Trinity College raised the bar on giving.

Records were broken for both donors and dollars during the Trinity Athletics Giving (TAG) Week. In all, 2,332 donors gave a combined total of $1,241,271.

“Since holding TAG Week 2021, we’ve seen a 63% increase in TAG Week donors,” said Drew Galbraith, director of athletics and chair of physical education. “We know our alumni, families, and friends cheer on our teams at games and tournaments, but to see that supportive energy roll into these fundraising efforts, it’s truly something special.”

Beyond donations, many members of the Trinity community gave generously of their time to help boost participation and secure challenge money for the teams they support. Tom FitzGerald ’88 served as TAG Week captain for men’s basketball, which raised $59,308 from 107 donors.

Having played for the team himself, FitzGerald understands the importance of a strong athletics program. “You create bonds playing sports when you are younger,” said FitzGerald, “and they last you a lifetime.”

But for FitzGerald, it’s not just about raising funds, it is about supporting the intergenerational connections between Bantams. “Building an alumni base and having an event like TAG Week brings together players from across the years,” said FitzGerald.

Laura Cooper P’27 served as TAG Week captain of the swimming and diving team, on which her daughter competes as a swimmer. “This is the best way to get my feet wet,” Cooper said with a laugh. “I wanted to get involved right off the bat, and hopefully will be involved all four years, growing my experience and supporting the team each TAG Week.” The swimming and diving team surpassed their donor goal, raising $13,250 from 145 donors this year and Cooper hopes to do even better next year. “This year, we passed our donor goal,” said Cooper, “but next year we’re going to smash it!”

By week’s end, every team was able to beat the donor goal set for them. Two teams rose to the top however, with men’s and women’s golf securing 241 donors, an incredible 454% above their original goal. This secured an extra $5,000 in challenge money for Trinity Athletics. The men’s lacrosse and women’s squash teams raised the most overall, securing another $2,500 in challenge money.
