A Tripod editor recruited me to become a reporter in the spring of my sophomore year, a mere 50 years ago. I researched the assignment and soon delivered my best prose. A few days later, the same editor taught me how to write by rejecting my words nearly in their entirety and assisting me in a total rewrite. Numerous teachers and professors had not bestowed me with that skill during the prior 15 years of my education. The skill endures even now and helped me excel at Trinity, in grad school, and in an accomplished business career.
