Dear Trinity College Alumni,

As chairs of the Trinity College Bicentennial Steering Committee, we write to update you on plans for the college’s yearlong bicentennial celebration which begins in May 2023. To honor the legacy and significance of our college and community, more than a dozen working groups and committees have been busy planning events and engagement opportunities to invite the full community back to campus and to bring the spirit of Trinity to you.

In advance of the bicentennial, we need your help. We ask that you participate in an all-alumni survey. Click here to access the survey. In 2018, we issued an alumni survey to create valuable benchmarks for the college. This year, we are looking to measure how we have fared and how we might create programming for you during the bicentennial year. We feel that it is important now more than ever to collect as much feedback as possible and to hear your voices as you express and reflect on what alumni value most, especially when it comes to planning the bicentennial. We appreciate your help.

As alumni, you are important stewards of this institution and its future. Under the theme of “Trinity at 200: Committed to the Future since 1823,” this celebration is as much yours as it is that of current students, staff, and faculty who are on campus today. Together, we make this community great through what we have learned from our liberal arts education and what we have been doing in the world since graduation. Our relationships, friendships, and stories define this institution.

We aim for the celebration to foster thoughtful dialogue and intergenerational conversations about the relevance of our community and how we serve the world around us. Key highlights from the planning so far include:

  • A kickoff community event on campus in May 2023
  • A special Charter Day in both May 2023 and May 2024
  • The Alumni Bicentennial Celebration on June 9 and 10, 2023 (coinciding with Reunion Weekend for class years ending in 3’s and 8’s) featuring special events and opportunities open to all alumni for their return to campus
  • A fall celebration
  • Multi-part, themed symposia throughout the year, currently being designed by faculty, staff, students, and alumni across generations
  • Traveling symposia for alumni in specific regions
  • The 200 Stories media project, which will invite all to be part of our communal storytelling
  • New content, such as a special podcast and live alumni speaker events online
  • The 1823 Series, designated annual events enhanced for the bicentennial year that currently include the performing arts, Cinestudio, and athletic games for each team
  • A closing gala in May 2024 to mark the close of the year

You recently should have received a “save the date” email for the Alumni Bicentennial Celebration. Stay tuned for more information on this unique opportunity to return to campus and rekindle your connection to Trinity and fellow Bantams. Visit the Bicentennial Celebration website to stay informed.

We look forward to celebrating this great institution with you and will communicate further details about the year as they develop.

Sincerely,

Philip S. Khoury ’71, H’21 and Kelli Harrington Tomlinson ’94
