Gates Quadrangle Reshaped

The section of campus immediately in front of Mather Hall underwent a complete transformation in the summer of 2012.
The renovations converted what had been a utilitarian, steeply graded crossroads into an elegant open space, featuring sculptural mounded lawn areas surrounded by pedestrian walkways. On Homecoming Weekend in November 2012, the area was dedicated as the Gates Quadrangle in recognition of the lead gift from John Gates, Jr. ’76, P’13 and Weezie Gates P’13.
The $2.65-million project was designed by Chicago-based Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects, and the work was carried out by the construction firm Kirchhoff-Consigli. Gates, who is a Trinity parent, trustee, and member of the Trustees’ Facilities Committee, noted, “This was an opportunity to change a part of campus quickly and to have a big impact on the feel of the campus.”
