Our Human-First Approach

The world needs people with the capacity to think critically, creatively, and ethically. It needs people with emotional intelligence who can exercise judgment and communicate authentically. These durable human skills—the markers of a liberal arts education—have always been consequential. In the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), they will be key differentiators.

Trinity’s human-first approach is grounded in our academic mission; aligned with The Trinity Plus Curriculum, which combines core liberal arts with experiential opportunities; and responsive to the research on AI and human learning.

A Three-Part Commitment

  • To promote a human-first mindset, which makes durable human skills like critical thinking and judgment, creativity, emotional intelligence, the capacity to turn ideas into action, and ethical reasoning the drivers of AI.
  • To prepare students who understand what AI is and is not; who can evaluate AI tools and outputs critically; and who are equipped to use AI effectively and responsibly — skills developed over four years and relevant across one’s personal, professional, and civic lives.
  • To support faculty, across all disciplines and perspectives, with the resources they need to advance student learning and their own research in an AI world.
