Trinity’s teams are led by Mike Louis, assistant professor of physical education and head women’s tennis coach, and Willy Nelson, assistant professor of physical education and head men’s tennis coach. Louis said, “It was a true joy for us to share our beautiful new tennis courts with our community partners. Having the kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs on the courts, laughing and enjoying the sport we all love, was truly special. We look forward to hosting them on the courts again soon.”
Nelson added, “Our team had a blast hosting the kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs for a tennis clinic. It was awesome to share the new courts with them and teach them about the game. One of my favorite things about being in Hartford is how readily we can connect and engage with the community here, and the team and I can’t wait to do more events like this in the future.”
The construction in summer 2026 of the eight new post-tension concrete courts at the Paul Assaiante Tennis Center was funded in part by a U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) Tennis Venue Services Grant. A goal of the grant is to support communities by providing access to appealing and functional tennis environments and programs to promote lifelong healthy activity.
