We’ll learn about myth traditions around the world, from Europe’s ancient Greece to south America’s Mayans. Throughout, we will use various critical lenses to make sense of these various myths and to compare them. We will examine creation and destruction myths, myths about trickster figures (like Prometheus and Anansi, above), and the relationship between myths and rituals. Mythologies to be examined include those on the continents of North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Along the way, we will also discuss re-figurations of myths by modern artists and their relevance to us now.
