“An Opinion and Determination of Her Own”: Agency and Influence in Women’s Cookbooks

Please enjoy our exhibit for Women’s History Month, which will be on view through May on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Raether Library & Information Technology Center.
Taking its title and inspiration from a statement by Amelia Simmons in “American Cookery” (1796), the exhibit emphasizes the ways that cookbooks by women not only display the boldness and individuality of their authors but also exerted cultural and other forms of power and influence.
