{"id":9057,"date":"2025-05-27T11:17:39","date_gmt":"2025-05-27T15:17:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/lits\/technology\/security\/best-practices\/multi-factor-authentication\/passkey\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T20:25:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T20:25:48","slug":"passkey","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/tdi\/technology\/security\/identity-access-management-program\/multi-factor-authentication\/passkey\/","title":{"rendered":"Sign In with a Passkey"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<h2>Instructions on how to setup passkey<\/h2>\n<h3>Prerequisites<\/h3>\n<p>Prior to setting up your account, you must have the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The user credentials which include a username (<a href=\"mailto:ms-%3cinitials%3e@trincoll.onmicrosoft.com\">ms-&lt;initials&gt;@trincoll.onmicrosoft.com<\/a>) and a Temporary Access Pass (TAP) \u2013 a one-time code provided with your username.<\/li>\n<li>A phone capable of running the Microsoft Authenticator and using passkeys AND\/OR a YubiKey\n<ul>\n<li>Android version 14 and later and iOS version 17 and later are required for Passkey use<\/li>\n<li>YubiKey can be obtained by contacting the Help Desk (helpdesk@trincoll.edu)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Logging in and adding the account to your MS Authenticator<\/h3>\n<p>Prior to setting up the Passkey, you must setup authentication to your MS account.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open a normal browser window <strong>(not Incognito\/InPrivate)<\/strong> and navigate to <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/mysecurityinfo\">https:\/\/aka.ms\/mysecurityinfo<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Sign into Microsoft Security Info page using your <a href=\"mailto:ms-%3cinitials%3e@trincoll.onmicrosoft.com\">ms-&lt;initials&gt;@trincoll.onmicrosoft.com<\/a> and Temporary Access Pass (aka TAP)<\/li>\n<li>You will then be prompted to install Microsoft Authenticator. If you have not done so already, please do so via the instructions on this page.<\/li>\n<li>Follow the instructions to add your MS account to the Microsoft Authenticator App.<br \/>\n<strong>Note<\/strong>: Please scan the QR code with the Microsoft Authenticator App (<strong>not<\/strong> the camera app). When you open the app, there will be a little blue button somewhere on the screen (usually bottom right) that will open the camera and allow you to scan the QR code.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Configuring a Passkey<\/h3>\n<h4>Mobile Devices<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the MS Authenticator app and select the account you\u2019re trying to setup passkey.\u00a0 Once your account is open, you should see a screen with options to set up the Passkey<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13853 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/tdi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/169\/2026\/07\/mobile-passkey1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"257\" height=\"555\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/tdi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/169\/2026\/07\/mobile-passkey1.png 257w, https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/tdi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/169\/2026\/07\/mobile-passkey1-139x300.png 139w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 257px) 100vw, 257px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Select \u201cCreate a passkey\u201d option then follow the instructions provided in the authenticator app<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Yubikey<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>From the <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/mysecurityinfo\">Security Info Page,<\/a> Select \u201c+ Add sign-in method\u201d<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13855 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/tdi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/169\/2026\/07\/yubikey1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"736\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/tdi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/169\/2026\/07\/yubikey1.png 736w, https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/tdi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/169\/2026\/07\/yubikey1-300x120.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 736px) 100vw, 736px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Select the option\u00a0<strong>Security Key<\/strong>, and then select\u00a0<strong>Add<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13857 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/tdi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/169\/2026\/07\/yubikey2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"514\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/tdi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/169\/2026\/07\/yubikey2.png 514w, https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/tdi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/169\/2026\/07\/yubikey2-300x158.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 514px) 100vw, 514px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If your browser displays a QR code or prompts you to register a passkey:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13859 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/tdi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/169\/2026\/07\/yubikey3-e1784230404165.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"245\" \/>\n<ol>\n<li>Select Try another way (or Back \/ Use a different passkey).<\/li>\n<li>Choose External security key or built-in sensor.<\/li>\n<li>Touch your YubiKey when prompted.<\/li>\n<li>Approve any Windows Security prompts.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Follow the prompts to set the key up. If you\u2019ve never used the key before, you will need to set up a PIN for it. Please make this memorable.
