In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, health and safety are at the\u00a0<\/span>epicenter\u00a0<\/span>of study away and any international or domestic travel.<\/span>\u00a0 Trinity\u00a0<\/span>College<\/span>\u00a0and the Office of Study Away\u00a0<\/span>takes the safety of members of our community very seriously and we have therefore put\u00a0<\/span>several<\/span>\u00a0measures in place to support this\u00a0<\/span>focus<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0 Students will receive more detailed health and safety information tailored to their specific program and destination\u00a0<\/span>once they are accepted to a\u00a0<\/span>program<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trinity College International Travel Policy<\/a><\/h3>\n
\n

Travel Approval<\/h3>\n

Safety conditions around the world change daily, from natural disasters and\u00a0<\/span>political<\/span>\u00a0unrest to pandemics and terrorism<\/span>.\u00a0 To ensure that we have the most recent and relevant safety\u00a0<\/span>information<\/span>, the\u00a0<\/span>Office of Study Away (<\/span>OSA<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>receives daily<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>security reports from\u00a0<\/span>a variety of\u00a0<\/span>sources<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>ncluding\u00a0<\/span>Overseas Security Advisory Council<\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>OSAC<\/span>)<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>International SOS (<\/span>ISOS<\/span>)<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Centers for Disease Control\u00a0<\/span>and Prevention\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span>CDC<\/span>)<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0U<\/span>.<\/span>S<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0State Department, as well as Canadian, British and Australian government sources.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In partnership with a leading international security form, Trinity College developed a matrix used to determine\u00a0<\/span>the safety of<\/span>\u00a0a destination<\/span>.\u00a0 This matrix is used to evaluate current locations\u00a0<\/span>frequented<\/span>\u00a0by member of the Trinity community\u00a0<\/span>that are safe but have experienced a change, as well as new destinations where our students, faculty and staff would like to travel to<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the Trinity program locations, our local program staff and faculty maintain close relationships with the U<\/span>.<\/span>S<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Embassy as well as local police and security forces\u00a0<\/span>which allow us to be current on safety conditions in those regions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

International\u00a0Medical and Travel Assistance\u00a0Insurance<\/h3>\n

All\u00a0members\u00a0of the Trinity community (including visiting students on our signature programs)\u00a0who are traveling internationally\u00a0are required to have comprehensive international medical and travel assistance insurance. Trinity partners with International SOS to provide travel risk and security services, including referrals for medical assistance covered by our supplemental Cigna Global insurance. The Cigna Global plan covers all medical emergencies and conditions, including mental health services and conditions related to pre-existing conditions. In addition, International SOS provides travel assistance including support for\u00a0evacuations due to medical or political reasons. NOTE: Travel assistance is not travel insurance and does not cover lost or damaged luggage, missed flights, etc.<\/p>\n

All Trinity students studying away are covered on these policies. For those students on Trinity programs outside the U.S., the Cigna Global coverage is your primary health insurance while abroad.\u00a0Trinity students going\u00a0on\u00a0an Approved External\u00a0Program will\u00a0have\u00a0access to ISOS and Cigna Global as supplemental services and coverage in addition to their program-specific insurance.\u00a0The ISOS and Cigna Global policies provide coverage for travel en route to the program site and afterward, including travel outside the program country.<\/p>\n

In addition, all students who are American Citizens are recommended\u00a0to\u00a0enroll in the Smart\u00a0Traveler Enrollment Plan (STEP) through U.S. State Department.\u00a0This is a free service\u00a0with online enrollment\u00a0and alerts\u00a0the U.S. Embassy of the traveler\u2019s presence in the host country\u00a0so they can better assist in\u00a0the event of\u00a0an emergency.\u00a0Students of other nationalities are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with\u00a0their country\u2019s\u00a0consular services in their host country.<\/p>\n

\n

Domestic Study Away\u00a0Insurance and Assistance<\/h3>\n

Students (both\u00a0Trinity and visiting) who are studying away\u00a0in the United States\u00a0will have the 24\/7 support of Trinity\u00a0College, the\u00a0Office of Study Away, and their program staff.\u00a0 They should maintain and rely on the health insurance they have through their school or family\u00a0and are encouraged to research any needed medical services at their program destination in advance\u00a0of the start date.<\/p>\n

\n

Student Visa Medical Clearance<\/h3>\n

For students whose study abroad paperwork requires a doctor-administered-physical:<\/p>\n

Your home healthcare provider is the best option for signing off on medical clearance forms.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

For those who are unable to have their home healthcare provider complete the medical clearance forms the Trinity College Health Center may be able to assist. Contact the Health Center to schedule an appointment. 860-297-2018 \u00a0healthcenter@trincoll.edu<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

Pre-Departure and On-Site Orientations\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

All students (Trinity and visiting) going on Trinity programs are provided with a program COMPASS (<\/span>Comprehensive Online Management Portal for Accepted Students<\/span>) that gives them a\u00a0<\/span>wealth of information\u00a0<\/span>and resources\u00a0<\/span>about preparing for their study away experience a<\/span>nd<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>making the most of\u00a0<\/span>their program\u00a0<\/span>and host\u00a0<\/span>destination<\/span>.\u00a0 Trinity students studying on an\u00a0<\/span>Approved<\/span>\u00a0External Program will receive a similar COMPASS, meant to\u00a0<\/span>complement<\/span>\u00a0their programs pre-departure and program information, which covers all Trinity College<\/span>\u00a0policies and resources.<\/span>\u00a0All students (Trinity and visiting) are required to read through and familiarize themselves with their COMPASS and then must take an online quiz to ensure that they have understood the<\/span>\u00a0key program information,\u00a0<\/span>including<\/span>\u00a0health and safety\u00a0<\/span>information<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once students arrive at their program, they will receive an on-site\u00a0<\/span>orientation<\/span>\u00a0which will give them all the\u00a0<\/span>information<\/span>\u00a0and resources they need locally to support them throughout their time away.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

On-call 24\/7 Emergency Support<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Office of Study Away is open Monday \u2013 Friday 8:30-4:30 but we are available to our students and\u00a0<\/span>travelers<\/span> 24\/7 via Trinity College Campus Safety line 860-297-2222<\/span>. Partner\u00a0<\/span>institutions<\/span>\u00a0and sending schools, as well as students confirmed on\u00a0<\/span>Trinity<\/span>\u00a0signature program<\/span>s<\/span>,<\/span> are provided with this contact information<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

International Emergency Management Team<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Trinity College\u00a0<\/span>maintains<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>n International Emergency <\/span>M<\/span>anagement Team that is an extension of the Emergency Management Team in Hartford.\u00a0 The team is made up of ke<\/span>y individuals across campus from a variety of offices to support the multifaceted and complicated safety situations that<\/span>\u00a0can arise overseas.\u00a0 In the event of an emergency, and depending on the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>type of emergency, some or all team members will co<\/span>me together<\/span>\u00a0as ne<\/span>eded<\/span>\u00a0to put a plan into action.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Emergency Plans<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Each Trinity program has a comprehensive emergency plan.\u00a0 These plans are reviewed\u00a0<\/span>annually<\/span>\u00a0and updated accordingly<\/span>.\u00a0 These emergency plans are shared with all\u00a0<\/span>accepted and confirmed<\/span>\u00a0students on Trinity programs prior to departure and are then reviewed again during the on-site orientation and\u00a0<\/span>throughout the semester, as needed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Contingency Plans<\/h3>\n

The very nature of travel is built on unpredictability and\u00a0<\/span>we never know what is going to happen in any given corner of the world during any given semester.\u00a0 We have\u00a0<\/span>experienced<\/span>\u00a0strikes, natural disasters, terror attacks,\u00a0<\/span>pandemics<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>medical emergencies and more and provide first class support for our students and families<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>f<\/span>\u00a0such turbulent times<\/span>\u00a0arise<\/span>.\u00a0 Academic continuity is very important and the Office of Study Away works closely with\u00a0<\/span>various<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>offices<\/span>\u00a0across campus to\u00a0<\/span>develop remote solutions as needed to\u00a0<\/span>minimize disruption and\u00a0<\/span>assist our students with their continued academic\u00a0<\/span>success<\/span>\u00a0and completion<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Student\u00a0Conduct<\/h3>\n

When studying away from campus, Trinity College expects students to uphold and\u00a0<\/span>embrace<\/span>\u00a0the same standards of conduct that are\u00a0<\/span>required<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>on the home\u00a0<\/span>campus<\/span>, with additional attention\u00a0<\/span>given<\/span>\u00a0to cultural norms and sensitivities for those going abroad.<\/span>\u00a0 All Trinity students studying away, as well as visiting students on Trinity programs,\u00a0<\/span>must\u00a0<\/span>read and sign a Code of Conduct\u00a0<\/span>as part of their\u00a0<\/span>online\u00a0<\/span>study aw<\/span>ay\u00a0<\/span>application\u00a0<\/span>approval.<\/span>\u00a0 The college takes this Code of Conduct very seriously and will take a<\/span>ll<\/span>\u00a0measures necessary to\u00a0<\/span>ensure that students are respected and\u00a0<\/span>safe<\/span>, including disciplinary action and expulsion from a program.<\/span>\u00a0 The\u00a0<\/span>expectations<\/span>\u00a0that we have for our study away students\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0outlined in the Code of Conduct section of their online study away application.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
