Following the prayer, the space opened for visitors to explore the Muslim Prayer Room, learn more about Muslim Life at Trinity College, and engage in meaningful conversations across the campus community.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1630\" data-end=\"1911\">Food service began shortly after, featuring freshly prepared d\u00f6ner wraps, salad, baklava, and refreshments. With its relaxed and open atmosphere, the gathering carried the feeling of a campus picnic, where people could come and go, sit together, and share a meal at their own pace.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1913\" data-end=\"2241\">Approximately one hundred participants joined throughout the afternoon, creating a lively and sincere atmosphere marked by conversation, hospitality, and connection. What unfolded that evening was far more than a shared meal\u2014it became a gathering marked by warmth, dignity, and a genuine spirit of togetherness.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"355\" data-end=\"836\"><strong>We were deeply honored by the presence of our students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of senior leadership, including Vice Presidents, President Daniel G. Lugo, and TinaMarie Lugo. Their participation reflected a meaningful commitment to shared community life. We were also grateful to welcome representatives from fourteen different institutions and communities across Hartford, as well as our neighbors. The room reflected the rich diversity of our campus and our city.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"838\" data-end=\"1424\">The program opened with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha and its translation, grounding the evening in reflection and gratitude. Welcome remarks from the MSA President and the Dean of Spiritual and Religious Life set a tone of hospitality and shared purpose. A short video introduced the essence of Ramadan for those less familiar, followed by student reflections that offered personal and heartfelt insights into fasting, prayer, and belonging.<\/p>\n<p>We were especially honored to hear from President Daniel G. Lugo, who offered a brief but heartfelt address. He extended his greetings for Ramadan and expressed his delight at seeing people of all faiths gathered in the room. He also highlighted his appreciation for the spirit of harmony and community on our campus, underscoring the value of such shared moments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"838\" data-end=\"1424\">The Kahoot trivia competition brought energy and laughter, and we closed the evening outdoors with a simple but beautiful sparkler sendoff.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1563\">At sunset, we broke our fast together following the call to prayer. That moment, quiet and communal, captured the heart of the evening.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1565\" data-end=\"1813\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us, supported the planning, and helped make this gathering possible. The evening began with a prayer at 6:00 PM, followed by a short lesson that encouraged thoughtful reflection and dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>Dinner was served shortly after, offering students and guests an opportunity to connect in a warm, welcoming environment. We were honored to have <strong>Dr. Anita A. Davis, Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion<\/strong>, join us later in the evening, adding her insights and encouragement to the conversation.<\/p>\n<p>The event was a wonderful success, fostering both spiritual growth and community engagement. They joined us for the khutbah and observed the prayer \ud83e\udd32.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"526\" data-end=\"749\">It was a joy to host them, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere after the prayer was truly heartwarming \ud83d\udcab. Collaborators<\/strong> at Trinity College.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"430\" data-end=\"732\">This award is given to programs that exemplify <strong data-start=\"477\" data-end=\"482\">E<\/strong>nthusiasm, <strong data-start=\"493\" data-end=\"498\">P<\/strong>ositivity, <strong data-start=\"509\" data-end=\"514\">I<\/strong>nitiative, and a <strong data-start=\"531\" data-end=\"536\">C<\/strong>ommunity-Centered approach. Among the hundreds of events held on campus each year, it is a great honor for our Iftar Dinner to be recognized for its outstanding spirit of collaboration and impact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"734\" data-end=\"1004\">The event brought together students, faculty, and guests from diverse backgrounds to break bread, share reflections, and celebrate the spirit of Ramadan. cultural tradition, and community fellowship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"403\" data-end=\"749\">The day began with the Friday Prayer at the Muslim Prayer Room, where <strong data-start=\"473\" data-end=\"501\">Imam Mehmet Sacit Arvasi<\/strong>, a respected Islamic scholar and Federal Prison Chaplain, delivered a deeply inspiring khutbah titled <em data-start=\"604\" data-end=\"669\">&#8220;The Purpose of Human Creation \u2013 Stories of Faith Behind Bars.&#8221;<\/em> His message of hope, transformation, and faith resonated with all who attended.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"751\" data-end=\"992\">Following the prayer, Imam Arvasi demonstrated the preparation of <strong data-start=\"817\" data-end=\"840\">fresh d\u00f6ner<\/strong>, showcasing a beloved culinary tradition.<br data-start=\"882\" data-end=\"885\" \/>Guests were then treated to a delicious meal featuring d\u00f6ner wraps, fresh salad, baklava, and refreshments.<\/p>\n<p community together in celebration, gratitude, and joy. From the early morning Eid prayer to moments of laughter and reflection, the day was filled with warmth and unity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"365\" data-end=\"645\">The celebration began with a heartfelt <strong>Eid prayer and khutbah<\/strong>, where we expressed gratitude for the blessings of Ramadan and prayed for peace and well-being. Following the prayer, attendees enjoyed a <strong>delicious Eid breakfast<\/strong>, sharing in the spirit of generosity and togetherness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"647\" data-end=\"882\"><strong>A touching reflection on parental love<\/strong> reminded us of the deep mercy and kindness embedded in our faith. Throughout the day, students and community members shared their <strong>personal Eid reflections<\/strong>, strengthening our sense of connection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"884\" data-end=\"1120\">The festivities continued with <strong>exciting games, a fun-filled Eid Sweet Challenge<\/strong>, and moments of joy captured in <strong>unscripted behind-the-scenes memories<\/strong>. In addition to these larger events, we were also fortunate to provide iftar meals to our student friends almost every evening throughout the month.<\/p>\n<p>With the generous support of Trinity College administration and the Spiritual and Religious Life office, we were able to extend this hospitality even during Spring Break, serving iftar to 24 students who remained on campus.<\/p>\n<p>Our Muslim Prayer Room became a warm and welcoming home away from home. Community Iftar Dinner<\/h1>\n<p>\ud83d\udcc5 <strong data-start=\"129\" data-end=\"156\">Monday, March 3, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"184\" data-end=\"227\">\ud83d\udccd <strong>Washington Room, Trinity College, Hartford<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"432\">On Monday, March 3, 2025\u2014just three days into Ramadan\u2014<strong>the Muslim Life Program <\/strong>and <strong>the Muslim Students Association (MSA) <\/strong>hosted a Community Iftar Dinner, offering the community a chance to gather and break their fast.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"434\" data-end=\"646\">We initially expected around 200 guests, but we were delighted to welcome over <strong data-start=\"513\" data-end=\"530\">240 attendees<\/strong>, including Trinity students, faculty, and staff, as well as representatives and friends from the local community.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"648\" data-end=\"922\">The evening was filled with warmth, reflection, and celebration. From the <strong data-start=\"722\" data-end=\"744\">opening recitation<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"772\">student reflections<\/strong> to a fun-filled <strong data-start=\"789\" data-end=\"811\">Kahoot competition<\/strong>, each moment highlighted the spirit of <strong data-start=\"851\" data-end=\"862\">Ramadan<\/strong>\u2014a time of spiritual reflection, gratitude, and community.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"924\" data-end=\"1166\">The event not only offered an opportunity for our Muslim students to experience Ramadan\u2019s beauty while away from home but also created a welcoming space for guests of all faiths to learn about and share in the traditions of this holy month.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1168\" data-end=\"1389\">We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make this evening so special.
