Lots of challenges came with that at college: learning how to function in a new place with a new body, with new friends and new professors. I wanted to help other people going through similar situations get the resources I wished I had early on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ramsden conducted research focusing on neuroendocrinology and addiction in the laboratory of\u00a0Luis A. Martinez, associate professor of neuroscience, who also was her adviser. \u201cHe was the first professor who made me realize that research was an option for me,\u201d Ramsden said. \u201cI had little functioning in my arm when I started college, so we worked together to adapt different protocols, and I realized this is the field I really want to go into.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As she completes her master\u2019s degree at Maastricht, Ramsden, of Lakeville, Massachusetts, also will have a volunteer internship at a local daycare center as part of the Fulbright\u2019s host country engagement requirement. Following her year in the Netherlands, she said, she plans to pursue a Ph.D. in neuroimmunology and ultimately wants to be a professor who teaches and conducts research. \u201cI have loved getting to know my professors at Trinity and getting to work with them so closely,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019d love to be able to do that with my own students one day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/trincoll-staging.trincoll.edu\/news\/trinity-alumna-with-fulbright-grant-will-teach-english-in-argentina\/\">Jones<\/a>, who majored in\u00a0educational studies\u00a0and minored in\u00a0Hispanic studies,\u00a0received a\u00a0Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program\u00a0Grant that will take her to Argentina next year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4857\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4857\" style=\"width: 207px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4857 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/reporter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/143\/2025\/09\/Sophia-Jones-24-Commencement-e1758560258717-207x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"207\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/reporter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/143\/2025\/09\/Sophia-Jones-24-Commencement-e1758560258717-207x300.jpg 207w, https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/reporter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/143\/2025\/09\/Sophia-Jones-24-Commencement-e1758560258717.jpg 391w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4857\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sophia Jones \u201924<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jones came to Trinity from San Anselmo, California, initially interested in studying history. \u201cOn a whim, I took the educational studies introductory course, \u2018Analyzing Schools,\u2019 and fell in love with the content,\u201d she said. \u201cI was fascinated by how layered and complex the U.S. school system is and how intertwined school systems are with history. I ended up finding that policy is what ties schools with history, which is why I concentrated in educational policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The grant period is March through November 2026, following the Argentine school calendar. \u201cI\u2019ll be teaching in a postsecondary school, and I hope to be working in a classroom where individuals are in training to be EFL [English as a foreign language] teachers themselves,\u201d Jones said. \u201cThis will let me interact with learners one-on-one, so that when I do get to work in policy, I\u2019ll have teaching experience to bring an informed perspective to benefit students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In her role as a cultural ambassador through the Fulbright Program, Jones, now working for an educational technology start-up, plans to host a family games club and to create a running group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m hoping the Fulbright experience will inspire me about where to go next,\u201d Jones said. \u201cI\u2019m also open to pursuing a master\u2019s degree\u2014maybe in linguistics, educational policy, or TESOL [teaching English to speakers of other languages]. . . .
