The 188-seat modified thrust theater\u2014with audience members situated on three sides of the stage\u2014serves, according to the theater\u2019s website, \u201cas a unique \u2018hug\u2019 to the shared humanity on stage and in the audience.\u201d Founded in 1985 by Steve Campo, the theater endured the pandemic by going virtual, welcoming an international audience, and by going outside, utilizing the riverfront to bring the community together; TheaterWorks Hartford was recognized by the Connecticut Critic\u2019s Circle for innovation for its efforts during that time.
